AMCOL International

When the specialty mineral product company AMCOL International Corp. decided to move its headquarters and laboratory from Arlington Heights to Hoffman Estates, it turned to Leopardo to build their LEED NC2.2-Silver project.

  • 72,000-SF, 2-story office/laboratory including 12,000-SF of green roof
  • Sustainable Site: Construction activity pollution prevention
  • Parking lot design: Preferred parking spots for drivers who carpool or drive low-emitting or fuel-efficient vehicles
  • Storm water design, Quantity & Quality Control: Bioswale
  • Water Efficiency: Water efficient landscaping with no potable use or irrigation. Water use reduction of 20%.
  • Material Usage: Recycling 77.99% of the waste generated during construction. Used 23.24% of recycled material and 42.76% of regional material (harvested and fabricated within 500 miles from the project site). 92% of all wood product used on the project was FSC certified.
  • Indoor Environment: Building utilizes glazing to provide daylight and views for at least 75% of building occupants. High-efficiency fixtures and occupant sensors reduce the building’s potable water demand.
  • Along with high levels of outdoor air ventilation, the building is specifically designed to ASHRAE standards to ensure the thermal comfort of occupants.
  • Indoor air quality will be monitored and maintained during construction. Low-emitting material will be used for adhesive, sealants, paint, and carpet.
