Leopardo Construction Completes 98,000-Square-Foot Surgery Center At Provena Mercy Medical Center
AURORA, Illinois (September 29, 2005) – Leopardo Construction, a leading Chicagoland construction services firm, today announced the completion of a 98,000-square-foot surgery center at Provena Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, Ill.
Located at 1325 North Highland Avenue, the surgery addition features 12 operating rooms and 40 bays/rooms for post anesthesia care, pre-op and post-op recovery. With “digital” operating rooms and computer stations built into each surgical suite, the center brings some of the most advanced medical technology to the Chicago suburbs and is one of the largest capital initiatives of the Provena Health System. The grand opening was held on April 15, 2005.
“This surgery center was extremely well planned as recommendations were sought from patients, physicians, nurses and other clinical staff,” said Michael T. Leopardo, vice president of Leopardo Construction’s healthcare group. “One of the unique aspects of this construction project was an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) back-up system, which is one of only three in the country installed in a healthcare facility, and will allow hospital operations to continue without interruption even during power failures.”
At the end of construction, Leopardo came in under budget, which allowed them to also build as part of the project a modernized and much more efficient sterile processing department, which was initially left off the plans for later expansion.
Leopardo Construction served as general contractor of the project. Proteus Group provided architectural and engineering services with Graef, Anhalt Schloemer and Associates as structural engineers. Ruddy Brothers served as the owner’s representative.
