Leopardo Construction Completed 19,000-Square-Foot Interior Build-Out For eatZi’s Gourmet Bakery/Restaurant In Century Shopping Centre
Grand Opening Took Place on Thursday, September 15, 2005
CHICAGO, Illinois (September 19, 2005) – Leopardo Construction, a leading Chicagoland construction services firm, today announced it completed interior build-out construction on July 22, 2005 on the 19,000-square-foot eatZi’s gourmet bakery/restaurant at the garden level of the Century Shopping Centre.
The grand opening of eatZi’s took place on Thursday, September 15, 2005. Located at 2828 N. Clark Street, the Dallas-based eatZi’s is fashioned after a European gourmet market with farm-fresh produce, fresh bread and upscale takeaway meals.
“The eatZi’s project presented some unique construction challenges, such as low ceiling conditions, high water table, relocation of existing tenants and access to the space,” said Steve Smith, vice president of Leopardo Construction’s retail group. “Working closely with the architects and eatZi’s representatives, we were able to implement design changes to coordinate with the existing building conditions and deliver the project on time and on budget.”
Leopardo Construction brought significant Century Shopping Centre experience to the eatZi’s project, having completed the renovation of the four-floor, 130,000-square-foot shopping centre in 1999 along with the construction of the Landmark Cinemas, which is housed on the fourth floor.
Leopardo Construction served as general contractor on site. Development services were provided by Lake Shore Development Corporation. Design Services Group/Planmark provided lead architectural services with Guajardo REC Architects LLC serving as the local architect.
Project Facts
- More than 600 light fixtures used
- More than five miles of electrical conduit used, including nearly a mile embedded beneath the slab
- Nearly 15 miles of power wire and cable used, not including nearly the same amount in low voltage cabling.
- More than three miles of plumbing piping used with over half underground
- More than 11,000 linear feet of concrete sawcutting used to remove the existing floor slab in small pieces so it could be removed from the building
