Crain’s Chicago Business Highlights Leopardo’s Strength in the Marketplace via Video

According to Crain’s description of the video, “the latest forecast shows construction activity is slower than initially expected this year. But at least one local contractor [Leopardo] says the market is improving.”

“Leopardo is breaking ground on several new projects this year.  The company has hired about 10 people recently,” said Chicago Business Today Host Lisa Leiter.

In recent months, Leopardo has been awarded about 20 projects totaling approximately $70 million worth of construction.

American Hospital Association Moves Into New 118,000-SF Headquarters at 155 N. Wacker

CHICAGO, Illinois (May 28, 2010) – American Hospital Association (AHA) recently moved into its new 118,000-square-foot headquarters on four and a half floors at 155 N. Wacker Dr. The newly finished space, which is pursuing LEED Silver Certification, was designed by Partners by DESIGN incorporated and built by Leopardo Companies.

The facility maximizes transparency through spatial arrangement of offices, workstations and ancillary functions. Use of transparent, translucent and reflective materials in combination with warm wood tones and natural materials provides a relaxing spa-like environment in which to work. Leopardo Breaks Ground on New Medical Office Headquarters for Barrington Orthopedic Specialists

SCHAUMBURG, Illinois (April 9, 2010) – Leopardo today broke ground on the new 53,000-square-foot medical office headquarters for Barrington Orthopedic Specialists.

Located in Schaumburg at 929 W. Higgins Rd., just west of the Higgins Rd. (Rt. 72) and Golf Rd. (Rt. 58) intersection, the medical office building will house Barrington Orthopedic Specialists’ full-service orthopedic practice with physical therapy, work hardening, work conditioning, MRI and physician offices. It will open for business in January of 2011.

Leopardo is serving as general contractor with Tinley Park-based Arete 3 as the architect.

Leopardo Wins Contractor of the Year and Project of the Year

CHICAGO, Illinois (March 19, 2010) – Leopardo was awarded the coveted Contractor of the Year and Project of the Year awards at last night’s 31st annual banquet of the Hispanic American Construction Industry Association (HACIA).

The Project of the Year Award was in recognition of Leopardo’s Children’s Specialty Care Clinic project at the University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital.  The 24,000-square-foot renovation project included a substantial renovation to the fourth floor of the children’s hospital, exterior façade replacement, a stair tower addition, and installation of a new air handling unit and chillers in the existing building shell. The emergency room and hospital remained open around the clock during construction.

According to HACIA, its awards banquet is consistently recognized as the largest construction industry event in the Midwest.

In addition to the two HACIA awards, Leopardo has recently received multiple prestigious honors from its peers, clients and the media, including:

Leopardo Builds Illinois’ First and Only Full-Field Intraoperative MRI Operating Suite for Central DuPage Hospital

WINFIELD, Illinois (March 12, 2010) – Leopardo recently completed Illinois’ first and only full-field, fully integrated, intraoperative MRI (iMRI) suite for Central DuPage Hospital (CDH), helping CDH establish a new standard for advanced neurosurgery.

“What makes iMRI unique is its implementation in the operating room as part of an integrated operating suite. The chief advantage of iMRI is that it allows a surgeon to view a tumor during the operative phase and helps to ensure that he removes as much of the mass as possible without damaging critical structures,” according to the cover article of the March/April 2010 issue of Chicago MD News. Leopardo Completes $7 Million Medical Office Building for Central DuPage Hospital (CDH)

The $7 million convenient care facility features radiology, trauma and internal medicine departments, along with cutting-edge diagnostics facilities, high-end finishes and wireless internet. Leopardo Completes $5.2 Million Expansion of ICU at Rush-Copley Medical Center

AURORA, Illinois (May 27, 2009) – Leopardo recently completed a 12,400-square-foot expansion of the intensive care unit (ICU) at Rush-Copley Medical Center.

The $5.2 million expansion included a first-floor addition of 14 new rooms, which was attached to the existing ICU where four existing rooms were renovated. New mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems were installed, as well as upgrades to the existing systems. New equipment was also installed and extensive medical gas work was completed. The new space features high-end finishes throughout.

Leopardo served as the general contractor with Anderson Mikos Architects as the architect.

Five Leopardo Employees Promoted to Vice President

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Illinois (March 30, 2009) – Five Leopardo employees were recently promoted to vice president for their significant contributions to Leopardo’s success over the past several years. Promoted to vice president were:

Chris Novak, Vice President, Interiors – Chris joined Leopardo in 1990 and previously served as project executive in Leopardo’s Interiors market. He earned a degree in building construction management from Purdue University.

Mark Fenton, Vice President, Interiors – Mark joined Leopardo in 1997 and previously served as project executive in Leopardo’s Interiors market. He earned a degree in construction administration from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

Matt Miller, Vice President, Healthcare – Matt joined Leopardo in 1993 and previously served as project executive in Leopardo’s Healthcare market. He earned his degree from Blackburn College.

Rory Tihinen, Vice President, Estimating – Rory joined Leopardo in 2007 and previously served as project executive in Leopardo’s Estimating department. He earned a degree in finance from DePaul University.

Todd Andrlik, Vice President, Marketing and Public Relations – Todd joined Leopardo in 2005 and previously served as director of marketing and PR. He earned an MBA from Roosevelt University and a degree in PR from Illinois State University.

“Chris, Mark, Matt, Rory and Todd have performed admirably in their roles,” said Rick Mattioda, president of Leopardo. “All of them are accomplished and talented company leaders, and extremely deserving of the promotions.”
