Harper Memorial Library at University of Chicago

The College Learning Center, as part of the University of Chicago, is a combination of spaces on the third floors of Harper Library, Stuart Hall and Wieboldt Hall that provide a comfortable, yet underutilized learning environment for students, faculty and staff. Leopardo Companies was hired to perform preconstruction services for a substantial renovation of the College Learning Center that will ultimately upgrade the facilities in order for students, faculty and staff to have the necessary space, tools and facilities needed to study.

• Collaboration with independent construction consulting firm to provide University of Chicago with the most thorough estimate, including insight on constructability, current market conditions, unit price take-offs and subcontractor feedback
• 40,000-SF renovation, including a new mezzanine level at Stuart Reading Room
• Plumbing, fire protection and electrical enabling projects that encompass the entire building
• Upgrade of mechanical systems to add air conditioning to Harper Library and Stuart Reading Rooms
• Anticipate work to start in Fall 2009 and be complete in Fall 2010
