Chicago Public Library - Archer Heights Branch
Chicago, Illinois

The Archer Heights Branch library is a one-story neighborhood library located on the southwest side of Chicago, near Midway Airport. The construction of this facility posed specific challenges to Leopardo Construction due to winter construction including temporary masonry enclosures and heat. Since this building was constructed within a flight path of the airport, special sound features were also incorporated in its design.

• Constructed of steel structural frame

• Solid masonry exterior walls featuring Mankato Kasota limestone from Minnesota

• Two-story entrance lobby featuring a barrel vault roof with standing seam metal roofing

• Reading room boasts raised roof with clerestory windows

• Sound attenuating features such as concrete roof deck, spray on acoustic insulation under the roof deck and laminated glass exterior windows

• Site work including an iron fence surrounding the site, granite paved seating area and garden

• Interior finishes included Terrazzo floors, clear maple millwork with Corian countertops
